Dreams of retreating to a quiet island are very close to reality for the lucky family able to claim ownership of this impressive and self-sustaining New Zealand retreat designed by Fearon Hay Architects. Overlooking Matiatia Bay, the series of structures are designed around an open courtyard in a layered enclosure that is both modern and camp-like in its arrangement, while also sheltering the inhabitants from the high winds that often batter the island. Each concrete space is associated with each aspect of the family’s living (eating, sleeping, entertaining, etc.), and is connected via retractable glass panels and perforated aluminum screens which complete balanced aesthetic with its rough surrounding elements. You can check out the full photoset and see the rest of the impressive amenities of the retreat here, at ArchDaily. |
