Much of the anticipated success of Maison Martin Margiela for H&M has to do with the Belgian house’s burgeoning profile as of late. Notoriously reclusive in the past, Margiela name-drops from the likes of A$AP Rocky and Kanye West have put the designer squarely on the radars of fans whose main frame of reference is likely limited to 3-strap sneakers. What might be lost in the fervor — and makes the collaboration one of the more unique partnerships in recent memory — is the fact that the collection of re-editions is as much an egalitarian celebration of Margiela’s archives as it is a forward-thinking, timely foray into mass-produced fashion. In light of this fact, we recently shot each piece from the collection, along with its name and the season from which it came.
