Marking the Air Force 1‘s 30th anniversary, Nike has teamed up with Dover Street Market to release a truly British and sports-inspired version of the silhouette. Paying homage to the historical significance of the year 1948, the summer of 1948 marked the first Olympic Games for London after a 12-year hiatus as a result of the second World War. The two brands have opted to use Ventile, a material that is synonymous with the city of Manchester, England — a fabric that was adopted during wartime because of its resistance against tearing and fire. Not only is the sneaker now lighter, but with the use of the waterproof material, less components are required in the production process, resulting in a much more flexible and formfitting Air Force 1. DSM leaves its mark on the Tyvek-sourced tongue, as its COMME des GARCONS London Dover Street Market address of 17-18 is seen in large font. Available in either classic navy or summer ecru, the Dover Street Market AF1s are up for purchase now at Dover Street Market and most major COMME des GARCONS locations. |
