Stelle Architects of New York strive to blend a non-invasive, “less is more” style of contemporary architectural design through the use of sustainable and indigenous local materials out of respect for the surrounding environment. The firm’s latest work is this House by the Pond that meticulously takes into account a dizzying degree of environmental regulations and site constraints, in addition to meeting the specific needs of the client. In addition to its uniquely segmented layout designed around a large breezeway, the two-story house features plenty of environmentally-conscious amenities like anodized aluminum doors, cedar trim, solar panels, and a geothermal heating and cooling system to maximize energy efficiency. And of course it wouldn’t be the ‘house by the pond’ without the pond itself. The structure collects all of the yard’s light and activity while offering expansive views over the pond and its wildlife.
